And while the world watches medals, records, and milliseconds, I see something else.<\/p>\n<p>I see leadership under pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Because what you see happening there, I see every week in the boardrooms of scale-ups and growth companies.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone who is good wins.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone who works hard holds up.<\/p>\n<p>And not everyone who has talent can handle what the next level demands.<br \/>\nAt the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympics.com\/en\/milano-cortina-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics<\/strong><\/a> you see it play out ruthlessly: at the highest level, you&#8217;re not judged on potential, but on moments.<\/p>\n<p>The same goes for CEOs.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What I see in growth phases<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>What I hear a lot:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;My team isn&#8217;t stepping up.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;There&#8217;s not enough ownership.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Everything moves too slowly.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What I see: a leader who has grown along with the company up to this point \u2014 but not beyond it.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s not failure. That&#8217;s a <strong>transition<\/strong>. And that&#8217;s exactly what happens in elite sport. What got you here is not what gets you there.<\/p>\n<p>More training won&#8217;t help. More control won&#8217;t either. More meetings certainly won&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is needed<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The difference between participating and performing comes down to four things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Make sharper choices<\/strong>. Fewer priorities, more focus.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Take decisions that create tension<\/strong>. Don&#8217;t move away from discomfort \u2014 move through it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stop rescuing<\/strong>. As long as you&#8217;re the one solving it, no one else has to.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be consistent<\/strong>. Even when it gets uncomfortable. Especially then.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>The shift that makes the difference<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This is the shift I see CEOs go through at this stage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From carrying everything yourself \u2192 allowing space to emerge<\/li>\n<li>From seeking consensus \u2192 providing direction<\/li>\n<li>From moving fast \u2192 making mature decisions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not glamorous, but decisive.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The real question<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>So the real question is not: &#8220;What is my team doing wrong?&#8221;<br \/>\nBut: <strong>what kind of leadership does this phase demand of me?<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd perhaps even sharper: <strong>what decision am I postponing because I know it will create tension?<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Does this resonate?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These are the kinds of questions I discuss with CEOs and business owners who feel their organisation is growing faster<\/p>\n<p>than their leadership naturally keeps up with. Not because they can&#8217;t do it.
